We are a purpose built nursery school with a large garden and a small wood attached. We cater for 50 children at any one time and have an adult/child ratio of one to ten.
Children begin at Grandpont at 3 years and transfer to their primary school the term during which they turn five. We are also able to offer extended time within our Mulberry room which is open from 8.00am until 6.00pm all year round. This is ideal for families who need extra day care.
At Grandpont we use the medium of play for children’s learning and our teaching. Through this we are able to implement the six areas of learning in the Foundation Stage curriculum. Through careful planning and observation we support and extend children in every area of their development and provide an environment which fosters independence, autonomy and positive self esteem. This doesn’t just come from the physical surroundings on offer but also from the whole learning and teaching ethos held within the school. This is implemented by all staff through their attitudes to the children and their learning.
We are extremely fortunate to have a large and beautiful garden which the children have constant access to. This is planned for in the same way as the rest of the nursery environment so that children are learning through natural experiences whilst enjoying the outdoor environment. The garden is organised in such a way that it complements the indoor environment and offers experiences for all areas of development.
Grandpont nursery school identifies itself as playing a key role within the local community. We have always had an open door policy for families and a culture of responding to the needs of the community. This is one of the reasons we now have our Mulberry Room (day care). We visit all the children at home before they begin at the nursery. We offer our Community Room to different groups within the community and we have very close links with our partner schools and other providers. We recognise that parents play the key role in their child’s education and this is why we aim to work so closely with parents in which ever way is possible. We want parents to have as much ownership of the school as the children and staff do.
Grandpont was given Beacon school status in 2002. We are very proud of our school and the key to its success is the work and commitment of all staff. We work closely as a team with a shared vision and ethos and we enjoy sharing this with our families, the wider community, partner schools and our many visitors.
